What
is Doxinate?
Doxinate or
doxylamine succinate is used for the short-term treatment of insomnia
(difficulty falling or staying asleep). It also controls sneezing, runny nose,
watery eyes, hives, skin rash, itching, and other symptoms of cold or allergy.
It is also used for morning sickness (pregnancy related nausea-vomiting).
Doxinate
is a combination of two medicines: Doxylamine and Vitamin B6. This medicine is
used to treat nausea and vomiting in pregnant women whose symptoms have not
improved after changing their diet or using other non-medicine treatments.
Doxylamine works by blocking the action of certain natural substances in the
body that may cause nausea and vomiting. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is given as
the deficiency of Vitamin B6 in the body could also be a factor in causing
nausea and vomiting during pregnanc

Other
Drug Interactions
Doxylamine enhances effects of
CNS depressants eg alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, opioid analgesics,
anxiolytic sedatives and antipsychotics. Atropine, tricyclic antidepressants
(TCAs), MAOIs. It can mask signs of ototoxicity caused by aminoglycosides. INH,
penicillamine and OC require greater pyridoxine dose. Pyridoxine reduces the
effects of levodopa, phenobarb and phenytoin.

Special Precautions
May impair ability to drive
and operate machinery. Angle-closure glaucoma, urinary retention, prostatic
hypertrophy or pyloroduodenal obstruction; epilepsy; hepatic impairment,
elderly. Lactation.
